BIOGRAPHY

 

Maja Metelska-Räsänen, orchestra conductor, D.Mus.A. in conducting and M.Mus in cello, graduate of the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Since her debut concert with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra in 2006, she has been conducting concerts with major orchestras in Poland, Finland, Japan and other countries. Active also in the field of opera, she has been a conductor of the Warsaw Chamber Opera in 2011 – 2018. Assistant professor and lecturer at the Chopin University of Music from 2007. Award winner of conducting competitions – 9th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors, 16th Tokyo International Music Competition for Conducting, 1st Solon Michaelides International Competition for Young Conductors, among others.

  • 9th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors, Katowice, 16 – 25 Nov 2012: 2nd Distinction Award and Special Prize for the best performance of a piece by Polish composer funded by the Polish copyright protection organization ZAIKS
  • 16th Tokyo International Music Competition for Conducting, Japan, 28 Oct – 5 Nov 2012: Winner of Honourable Mention Award and the Special Hideo Saito Award – highest distinctions given by the Jury during the Competition
  • Solon Michaelides International Competition for Young Conductors in Nicosia, Cyprus, 15-18 Oct 2013: Winner of the Special Orchestra Award of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra
  • 15th Competition for Orchestra Conductors of the European Union in Spoleto, Italy, 2008: Finalist
  • 8th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors in Katowice, Poland, 2007 : Semifinalist, awarded Polish Television Prize
